Senior Social Media Specialist | Miami Dade PD
Angelica Kellner is the Senior Social Media Specialist for the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD). She grew up in Miami, FL and attended Florida International University where she majored in Communication Arts. In March 2018, she joined the MDPD as a Social Media Specialist. As the Senior Social Media Specialist, she is responsible for all social media communications on behalf of the Department and the coordination of effective messaging to the community. The Department provides information, via all social media platforms, during a State of Emergency, major events, large scale community events, newsworthy incidents, and/or anything regarding public safety. Angelica helps manage the social media accounts for the department, produces social media videos, campaigns, and content. In her six years in the department, she has part of major incidents such as the Surfside Building Collapse, Line of Duty Deaths, Hurricanes, and major events such as the Super Bowl, College Football National Championship, and Formula 1. For the past four years, Angelica has been an instructor for the Social Media portion of the Annual Public Information Officer Workshop, hosted in Miami, FL. Prior to joining the MDPD, Angelica worked in a PR Agency where she had Local, State, and Federal clients, helping with social media content creation, crisis response and campaigns. She also worked as a Public Relations Aide for the City of Miami for over a year.

Surfside Building Collapse: Social Media during a Major Incident

<p class="xxxxmsonormal">On June 24, 2021, at approximately 1:22 a.m. EDT, Champlain Towers South, a 12-story beachfront condominium, partially collapsed, causing the deaths of 98 people.</p> <p class="xxxxmsonormal">As the lead police department and one of the main public safety departments, how do you use social media to get information that the community needs while also paying respect to the victims, families, and all of those affected?</p> <p class="xxxxmsonormal">We’ll experience firsthand the Miami-Dade Police Department's response to this tragedy on social media from start to finish.</p>
