Sam Salzwedel

Public Information Officer - Pinal County Sheriff's Office
Sam Salzwedel is the Public Information Officer for the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona. PCSO has more than 2.5 million social media followers and is home to the viral series “Fridays With Frank.” Sam has a journalism degree from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University. He spent 12 years in the television news business as a photographer and investigative journalist. He joined PCSO in 2019. Located between Phoenix and Tucson, the county population is only about 500,000. The office has continuously gained more followers than larger agencies. In 2021, Sam came up with the idea for “Fridays With Frank.” The series follows PCSO Traffic Unit Deputy Frank Sloup. That skyrocketed the agency’s following, including helping win a YouTube Gold Creator Award for earning more than 1 million subscribers. In 2023, Sam won a Rocky Mountain Emmy Award for his PSA against camping in the left lane with Sheriff Mark Lamb. He has 5 other Emmy nominations. As PCSO continuously evaluates best practices for social media and video production, the FBI is the only law enforcement agency in America with more followers.
