Public Information Officer, Reno Police Department
Chris Johnson has served with the Reno Police Department for over 12 years, bringing a broad range of experience to his current role as Public Information Officer. Throughout his career, he has held assignments in patrol, served as a training officer, hostage negotiator, and worked as a detective in both the narcotics and human trafficking units. Since stepping into the PIO role in May 2024, Officer Johnson has led a significant transformation in the department’s digital outreach. Under his leadership, the Reno PD Instagram following has grown from 18,000 to over 51,000 followers through innovative campaigns, creative partnerships with local content creators, and unique, compelling video and photo content. These strategies have generated millions of views online. He brings extensive expertise in social media strategy, video production/ editing, and digital storytelling. Officer Johnson is passionate about using these tools to strengthen community engagement and promote transparency in law enforcement.
